With rising unemployment, a migration tradition and the recent influx of Rohingya refugees – hundreds are journeying towards a better future by sea. Lured in by trafficking rackets, young men (and women) are getting on boats from Bangladesh’s southern coast – often meeting imprisonment, torture, starvation, arrest, deportation and even death on the high seas.
Purplewood has designed a 12-district campaign based on the insight that potential illegal immigrants (subconsciously) choose to think about only the beginning of their journey, but shut out where they might end up. This imbues them with a misplaced sense of optimism. The campaign traces the migrant’s journey by sea and clearly points out the dangers, while reinforcing the message with testimonials.
The campaign will end December 2017.
